Waterloo Reserve

On Friday our senior students travelled out to Burekup Hall and Waterloo Reserve for a day of learning on country. Before listening to the stories of local Noongar Families who grew up on the reserve in Waterloo the students looked at their own family tree and clan groups.

Keipa Boodja supplied the group with delicious kangaroo stew and helped the children to make damper which was enjoyed by all.

We were keen to learn how Aboriginal people lived before colonisation and all about the history of the reserve. While walking around the reserve we were shown significant places, how plants are used, taught about the five senses and the Noongar seasons.

We concluded the day with students writing their names on bricks that will be set in front of a Mia Mia, that one day they can return to and show their families.
